Lenovo CS2 Shift Slip

    Another broad and possibly dumb question....

    For those of you with an air shifted Lenco CS2, what sort of shift/slip profiles (inside the trans) are you seeing under full power shifts? What power/torque level at that time?

    Trying to get a feel for whether there is much give inside a CS2 under full pod pressure or not during shifting?

    IE: if you get rid of all of the converter/clutch slip compliance, then how are the CS2 disc packs going to fare and react?

    Little to no slip on shift even with a screw blower if you adjust the pods correctly and use straight 30 at oil. This is the pod adjustment procedure from Matt Moore who used to be at Lenco. It has never failed me

    1. Back off locking nuts on air pods and move lock nuts up high

    2. Remove top oil fill plug

    3. Look down oil fill holes at clutch ring and make sure there is a small punch mark on ring. If no mark then make one with a punch. Position is not critical as it is an eyeball reference.

    4. Turn air pod clockwise while watching punch mark on clutch ring. You should see or start to see punch mark move towards the air pod. You should also feel resistance in the turning of the pod at this point.

    5. Once you see movement towards the air pod and turning resistance increase stop and turn the air pod counterclockwise until you see the punch mark move away from the air pod and the mark stops moving. At that point turn air pod one complete turn counterclockwise then lock the air pod nut down tight at that position.

    6. It is not critical if you turn the air pod slightly less or slightly more. 3/4 to 1 1/4 turns.

    7. Install fill plugs.

    If I remember correctly the CS2 requires 200 psi. The CS1 requires 150 psi. Also you don’t have to measure the clutch pack in a CS2 like in a CS1. If you assemble the clutch pack with good steels and clutches it always is within tolerance.

    Is it a "bad" thing to add a little extra pod pressure above the recommended Lenco level? Just curious. Not talking double, just some percentage extra above.

    That is not good for the CS2 to run 250 psi. It will damage the clutch plates.

    How so? Thought more pressure was better, more holding capacity, and less pressure was smoked clutch pack?
