Window repearing

    Anyone having some great tips that one should think about when repearing BAE 98 windows

    Make the patch fit tight, and use jackscrews between the mains (in the section you are welding) to help prevent the block from "pulling" when the weld cools. Also, don't weld too much at one time, be patient. If you can, don't weld both sides during the same session, the second side, or the one with less weld, will tend to crack anyway while the first side is cooling. It takes some practice and experience, you may want to practice on a junk block first if one is available.

    If you are welding a forged block or billet heads you want to use the 4043 rod. If welding cast blocks use the United States Welding Corp. rod #4181C this is the best rod to use for 356 castings. United States Welding

    We also made a line up bar to fit in the main saddles to help keep the mains straight.
    The 4043 rod is to hard to use on castings and is prone to cracking.
