just to throw in my $0.02

    i run a bbc blown 90% nitro aa/fa

    tilton super starter
    msd mag

ZERO fire when hitting it with 12v

went to a small battery to run items on board (including starter solenoid so it only sees 12v)

have a 24v battery pack (2-12's wired to produce 24v) that i hook to the starter motor for start up and disconnect

cheap and easy and NEVER a problem... starts instantly

hope this helps... skip all the specialty BS... it's just a chevy man

A tilton is what we have used the most and never any trouble using 24V. I would have to think it must be the size of the wire used ,or the way it was wired or most likely not grounded well enough
