Ring gap

I recently ordered new pistons and rings from Arias and I didn't get any instructions for the rings. The top ring is a Hellfire and I am not sure what the recommendation is for ring gaps. What is everybody running out there? My combination is for a Blown Alky FED. Veney fuel heads, 6-71 retro blower (made 25lb on old combo), 11.5-1 comp., 4.187 bore, looking to make 1500hp. on a 4.310 bore we run hell fires 24 top and 26 second I have ran 22 and 24 with no ring butt 486 blown alk 14 hh delta 50 over 36 psi at 7900-8000 in a jet boat and the engine is at full power the entire track like a hard dyno pull hope this helps Craig

 

sounds very tight....36-38 on the top ring...and 28 on the second ring

I don't believe 24 on the top is enough, when we ran that much gap the sleeves were getting scored all the way around, and the rings/pistons were damaged. I run 32+ on the tops now with no problem.

That was with a 4.375 bore, but I still use .032 gap with our current 4.310 bore. I can't say for sure they were hellfire rings, I think I had already switched to the larger gap before I put the HF rings in.

 

We run the hellfire @ .026 with 24lbs boost on a 4.530"bore & still going with nil problems,circuit boat which does about 3 minute races.

 

No, I just tried something similar the other day, couldn't do it either. Maybe Will can tell us what we're doing wrong.

I think the 19k limit is for the image in your signature. I have recently seen a lot larger images posted. (example:: the ones about the newly running injected funny car).
Put an image in Photbucket or one of the similar image storage places on the net and then hit the "insert image" icon on this site's reply box and it should put in the image.

But when you get it from Photobucket, it already has the IMG tag on it and Insidetopalcohol adds one also. Remove the extra one.

 

I think those specs. are for gas ,so there should be a little buffer left over ??
