    Well, it's time to buy a whole whack of race tools & stuff. Starting from scratch.....

    Not the regular hand tools and such, but specialty race tools & measuring equipment & handy to have gadgets. Pit/trailer stuff too.

    Any recommended sources? Wizards Warehouse is one I am familiar with, but there must be others?

    Already have a VN clutch machine.

    Any thoughts on battery/electric power tools versus air?

    the new snap on cordless impact 3/8 drive supposed to stay charged most of the day wizards has alot of good stuff the rotor fixture is good and the front gear puller for the rotors torqueing plug wrench is good tom is great to deal with

    pit pal large tool tray you got to have for a funny car

    We have the Blue Point version and it will torque lug nuts to 100 lbs with a fresh battery. It also stays up longer than you expect it to.

    Give Ora Vasquez a call at (805) 489-2167. He makes a lot of trick tools for working on alcohol car.

    Few things off top of my head.
    Two cordless impacts (clutch/bottom end - also buy about 10 extra oring clips to keep sockets on...those always go bad)
    Extra 12 point sockets, 5/16 on up. Those are always hard to find.
    Allen sockets and T handles.
    Slide hammer for mains
    Valve spring checker/changer (see Ora's Tools)
    clutch floater flatness fixture
    1/2 wrenches with box ends ground at angle for blower nuts
    good air guage and kinda good air gauge. use your good one every morning to check the kinda good one. that way your high dollar one doesn't take the beating, and you have a way to check each one.
    about every size of helicoil...including burst panel screws if you run a psi.
    fluke meter for pesky electrical problems
    spare cables for all morse cables on car
    plenty of electrical wires/connectors, etc.
    msd wire crimping tool
    spin balancer if possible (way better than bubble balance)
    BFH (big F'n hammer)
    regular and needle nose vise grips
    dial set up for degreeing camshaft...prefer adjustable 'arm' type so you can do it with head on if necessary.
    quick slide c-clamps...come in handy.
    go back and get more 12 point sockets esp 11/16 3/8 drive and 1/2 drive. you'll use them for clutch, heads and mains.
    2 half inch torque wrenches (bottom end-heads/clutch) 3/8 torque wrench with 1/2" crows foot (torqueing inner head studs)
    clutch lineup shaft
    any specialty tools for your rear end. (strange makes tool kits for their rears)

    custom make yourself tools
    weld an extension on 3 half inch ratchets (unless you have old torque wrenches to use that you don't torque with anymore). one for turning motor, one for loosening on bottom end and one for loosening on clutch.

    make a custom wrench for blower belt tightening. Weld two wrenches together, one for each nut size on your idler assembly. (sizes vary)

    for crower clutch, make a spacer around .145 thick for clutch setup tool. you can stick this between the gap between pressure plate and donut for intial setup. bottom your adjusters out, run the stand nuts down until the gap just snugs up on the tool. take 11/16 wrench and do final adjustments until the tool just has a little drag. then back stands up against the hat and torque. once you get the hang, and a little adjusting to the tool, you'll have the adjustment within a few thousandths of zero.

    that ought to get you started.

    You're also gonna need aproximatley 42,000 wire ties, and 27 rolls of duct tape.You can also figure on buying every can of brakekleen thats in the town you live in.On the serious side, it's nice to have aluminum trays about 2ft x 3ft to lay under motor and clutch to help keep your stuff organized and clean.

    Small extendable magnets (look like antena, easy to pick up nuts/bolts)
    Magnetic dishes (valve cover nuts for between round)
    Muffin trays (hold nuts/bolts during teardown)
    Threaded handles to go into rear of blower case and belt guard mount (makes lifting blower off MUCH easier)
    Threaded handles to go into tranny, again makes for easy removal
    Plug gapper, saves TONS of time

    Micrometers
    Ball mic. for bearings
    Go-No-Go thread gauge for rods
    If you running a Lenco you also need a manual shift tower & a good fish scale to check shift pressure

    Also a decent laptop computer with Windows XP and NOT Vista. I hate Vista!!!!

    a 2-5/16 trailer ball welded on a peice of pipe works good if you have to straighten a header on a fc oh and a bfh will be needed also

    cordless impacts

    Will and others - how strong do you like for the cordless impacts? 14.4v or 18v? ft-lbs? Is there a need for anything really strong (250-300ft lbs) in a cordless?

    Brandon, I just wanted to say thanks to you and your dad, the wing worked great on my ride, and I was able to us my old stand it was like it was made to fit my rail, it dropped all of the tire slippage i was having on the top end of the track, and we won the last race 2 weekends ago.
