    The saying "we are like family" may sound old to some but I will tell you right now, reading these replies makes it hit home.

    I have the latest updates on Shawn, as I got off the phone with Shawn's Dad and Nick's dad (less than an hour ago) as they were waiting for their connection to Nashville from Dallas.

    This is a tough time for the Cowie family and friends, Bill and Shirleen included. When they needed Shawn to dig deep and pull it out for them, he did, and from what I've heard in the past few hours he's doing it again. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shawn, Taylor and the family.

    Fram a local TV station.
    Nashville, Tenn. -- Two people are in the hospital after police say a driver hit a man on a motorcycle. Officers reported that the driver of the car smelled of alcohol. A blood sample was taken for analysis by the TBI crime laboratory.
    The man critically injured Saturday night is identified as professional drag car racer Shawn Cowie of British Columbia, Canada. Cowie, 29, is hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
    The collision happened around 10:30 Saturday night on Interstate 40, near mile marker 207. Metro Police say Analisa Ramirez, 20, hit his motorcycle, sending him off the bike and off the interstate.
    "To get a better grasp of it, he was struck by a vehicle with enough force not just to throw him off the interstate but underneath the interstate," says Captain Chris Taylor. "It was probably a thirty foot fall."
    Ramirez was also thrown out. Her door is believed to have opened on impact. Police believe she may have been under the influence of alcohol.
    Both are in critical condition. The motorcyclist suffered life threatening injuries, but police say his condition improved throughout the morning.
    I-40 near the crash was closed for hours and reopened at 4:30 Sunday morning.
