Thacker Reaches the Semi-Finals in Joliet

The TORCO Racing Fuels Top Alcohol Dragster driven by Marty Thacker was in Joliet this past weekend for the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals.

The Rapid Transit Racing Team, which has enjoyed much success here in the past including the first ever blown alcohol 270 mph pass and a win at the 2002 Jeg’s All-Stars event, was unfortunately ousted in the semi-finals in a BA/D champions showdown against David Wells.

The Team qualified #7 with a 5.49 at 262.74 mph. They then went on to win round one setting the low E.T. and top MPH of the round with a 5.44 at 264.29 mph. In the quarterfinals, Thacker continued to run well when he laid down a 5.47 at 262.79 mph to take the win light. Against David Wells in the semi-final round, Thacker was away first but was unable to hold on as the car slowed to a 5.52 at 258.42 mph.

"We started a new clutch program this year, and spent all the previous races trying to calm the car down to what the tracks would hold. Then we showed up at Route 66 and spent all weekend trying to catch up to what the track wanted thrown at it. I just never got there, and we cooked the clutch out of the car in the semifinals. You can't make mistakes like that when you’re competing against this caliber of competition. We've added this weekends runs to our database and will be better armed next time," said Thacker.

The next race for the Rapid Transit Racing Team will be in Stanton, Michigan at Mid-Michigan Motorplex on the weekend of July 4th.
