you guys are going to have a coronary when you read this..... I have at least 200 runs on the rods. Yep that's right... 200 (or more). But, I run 1/8 mile and never turn it more than 8k. Boost is under 25# and static is 10:1. Someone mentioned detonation. I don't think it's that. I have had that problem before and the bearings literally fell out of the rod when I took the cap off. These are nice and tight. I have not been able to get back in the shop to get the p/n and pics of the brgs.

    Btw.........

Oh.... and by the way, I would LOVE to have a hemi. However, my banker (aka the wife) hates the BBC. I can only imagine what would happen if I brought home a hemi.

    rods

I used to run Chevy motors and have also put as many as 200 runs on a set of rods. i used to run Venolia rods in my mid 7 sec chevys, but i also did something somewhat unconventional i ran .002 to .0025 clearance and used straight 40 wt oil. did it for over ten years without a problem

last year switched to a BAE Hemi and i'm being told around 30 passes and change em

    thanks

I want to give thanks for all the help on the pitted bearing problem. Special thanks to Mike C for forwarding the Clevite Bearing Failure Analysis info. As it turns out, my bearings are simply worn out. Who'da thunk.....? :)

I too had this issue with KING bearings. Switched to ACL and problem solved. 70 runs is not out of the question for a combo like yours. But I also dont like the 70# oil. How much bearing clearance?

    Clearance.... .004-.005

Got new bearings. Clevite. Went back to .006 .007 clearance. Still using the 70. 1st race is in 3 weeks. Will let you know what happens. (if anything)

If the car is self starting bad electric current flow will pit the bearings.
Running a Mag without good grounding to the heads will do it too.
Welding on the car and grounding to the engine will also do it.
Acid in the oil from leaving the used oil in the engine over the winter will corrode the bearings. In other words if you are not running fresh oil through it before putting it up for the winter you have acids in the oil. Alcohol cars are even more prone to this.
Build it Tune it Drive it.
