Nitro motor switching to Methanol?

    Hey guys, I picked up a 451” hemi with total flow heads that went 5.45 @267 in a 2175 lb rail on nitro.

    Im going to stick this in my 69 super bee and run methanol and probably run a 600 shot fogger with stand alone tank with c16 in it on a progressive

    my only concern here is the huge ports on the heads and hogans intake and the 451” motor able to pull a signal without the port stalling etc..

    This is a n/a A Fuel type motor

    has anyone switched to straight methanol and made decent power like this?
    Was hoping to make atleast a 1000 on M1 or m5 and then add the NOS

    We ran a 421ci A-Fuel Hemi Motor with a blower and ran alcohol with BAE 5 Fatheads and ran really good. We ran 3.80s at 200 mph with no trouble and very low boost-Jim in TN

    Thanks, I can see it making power for sure with a blower.. but I’m gonna run it n/a on methanol..

    I thought someone might have tried this or new about what it would make power wise n/a

    when you say low boost how much?
    And what compression did you run?

    maybe I’ll just get a blower

    With a .085 head gasket it’s 12:1

    I would run a blower and sneak up on the boost. Might have to look at a cam change as I am not sure what a current Inj Nitro cam has for specs. Also how well is your car set up for the power level this new engine combo is capable of?

    It’s a n/a cam 285 @ 50 .920 lift

    may blow some boost out the exhaust for sure

    cars ran 4’s with a 636” Indy hemi but it’s an old build I need to strengthen the 4 link and do a wishbone for sure

    Cam will be fine , you are not out to beat the world yet. Depending on blower type and size I would still stay low on boost to get you feet wet instead of wallet empty. Same with timing of Mag.

    yea I’m just having fun.. would be neat to have the fastest all steel super bee though..

    I’m gonna save for a blower and started out with like 15lbs or so and go play

    Is it a symmetrical 285 profile and what's the lobe C/L angle.

    Wish I knew didn’t get the info was a back up motor but went 5.45 @ 267 at 2170 lbs in a rail

    what ever they ran in A fuel class which is a N/A nitro class..
    they are the smaller chamber heads I think 98cc

    For what I want to do I’m sure it will be fine I’ll try to make 2500 hp or so low boost on m1

    Yeah, no problem ..... just curious.
    Typically blown alky combo's like 114 to 116 C/L ...... I have no idea what a NA nitro combo uses.
    Here's SPUD's info on using Nitro ..... it may help explain what combination you already have and what to do to suit alky.

    Looks like a CRANE cam card ......
    Could probably be a starting out 8000 RPM, Nitrous or Blown Alky cam with that duration and 111.5 lobe C/L.

    I run a former TA/D blown engine now in NA trim. Runs fine/ I would think if an A/fuel motor the compression would have been up around 14:1. If piston to head allow I would run thinest gasket you can get by with and bump compression up. I am at 12:1 ansd wqaiting for new bigger pistons with increased compressiona around 14.5:1. The A fuel cam would work fairly well for injected alky. It is probably not far off from what I run in my stuff 384/286 at .050 with .750 lift. An A/fuel engine is a NA engine just with costly fuel in tank, more ignition and lot more fuel..

    Heck the Noonan engine we have in the A/fuel car I work on has smaller ports than my old BAE heads. The intake is very close to one I built for my injected alky combo.

    Should be a simple setup to make run fine with very few changes.
