Jody, I don't understand why you wouldn't use your Digital 7. The only problem he most likely had was just a setup problem.

Hey guys...I actually haven't started the car again to check. Not exactly an easy task...pushrods are out, marvel mystery oil is in everything, and frankly we're burned out. I promise to let you all know what it was when we start again...might be a few months...unless we get ambitious and bored.

if you purchase the tester you dont have to start the car to see if it works. I like it a lot for troubleshooting issues like you had. It's a lot easier on the car versus keep starting it up and shutting it off. I'm pretty sure it was less than $100.00 for the tester.

Mike, you talked me back into the digital 7. Already have one and wanted to use it anyway, alot of neat features. Maybe I'll give you a call when I get it installed, every time I talk to MSD I get a diff. answer, sometimes a diff. answer from the same tech. guy:eek: Thanks

I've used the 7531 on promag12 and 44. It works good, just follow the instructions for the mag configuration..I think it's better than the 8973.
I'm interested in the test box. Will it let you check all the step retards without running the car? I've had trouble getting the step to work at the shift and ended up crashing the car testing it.

I will check the part number when I get home tonight, it's in the garage.
Yes it will let you check the step retards and other aspects of the programming. It is a lot better than having to start the car each time.

This is an older post but I told you all i'd follow up on the fix. We're starting the car tonight and I'll let you know if switching to tach timing instead of tach trigger fixed our problem.

Well it fixed it. I have the step 1 retard on at all times w/ 5* pulled so we can adjust timing the computer. We actually started it and it wasn't pulling the timing out at first. Looked at the data and it was still set to "tach trigger". Changed it to "tach timing", saved it to the msd box, and started again. 5* was pulled. Launch retard now works too. Just FYI. Thanks for the help guys....
