BRIAN DECKER WINS AT DOTHAN DRAGWAY

May 7, 2005 – Dothan Dragway hosted the Pro Top Outlaws for the first time this season. Great weather and plenty of fans turned out to watch quick times and some great side by side passes. Unfortunately, early season bugs and a few broken parts during qualifying left only six cars for elimination’s on Saturday night, but those six participants put on a great race. Brian Decker of Louisville, Kentucky qualified number one and ran the table by defeating number two qualifier Tom Mueller of Cincinnati, Ohio in the finals. Decker also recorded low E.T. and top speed of the event with a 3.89@185.92mph blast. Congratulations to team Decker; as well as, the entire crew at Dothan Dragway for an outstanding event. Next race is May 29th in Dorchester, South Carolina.

    Qualifying

    1. Brian Decker Louisville, KY Chevy /Spitzer 3.94 178.52

    2. Tom Mueller Cincinnati, OH Chevy/Spitzer 4.06 173.64

    3. Toby Chapman Duncan, SC Hemi/Spitzer 4.09 178.67

    4. Brandon Booher Tolono, IL Hemi/Spitzer 4.26 168.09

    5. Curt Johansen Richfield, NC Hemi/Spitzer 4.29 164.91

    6. Gary Watters Whitley City, KY Chevy/Gordy 4.30 167.86

    7. Tim Bragg Valley View, OH Hemi/Spitzer DNQ

    8. Jack Heslink Sachse, TX Hemi/BOS DNQ

    Round One

    W - Gary Watters .465 4.140 171.64
    L – Brandon Booher .519 4.177 171.26

Both of these cars were off their usual pace in qualifying but they both stepped it up for the first round with Gary getting the jump on the line and the win.

    W – Toby Chapman .538 4.073 175.16

    L – Curt Johansen .358 6.128 83.16

Curt took a shot at the tree and turned on the red eye as Toby moved on to the semi and continues to go quicker each pass.

    Brian Decker .409 3.909 185.71

    Tom Mueller .419 4.089 175.67

Both these drivers get bye runs because of their qualifying positions, but they ran together to give the fans a side by side race. Both had great lights and Decker goes quicker for the third pass in a row. Mueller slows a little after getting out of shape down track.

    Semi-Final

    W- Tom Mueller .414 4.045 179.38
    L – Gary Watters .303 .303 4.122 170.43

Gary hits the tree too hard and gives up the win but has his quickest run of the event. Mueller picks up some E.T. and a lot of MPH on a nice looking run.

    W – Brian Decker .466 3.894 185.92
    L – Toby Chapman .464 4.095 176.55

Brian takes the win with the first 3.80 pass in PTO this year, with many more sure to come.

    Final

    W – Brian Decker .410 3.981 182.13
    L – Tom Mueller .430 4.023 176.57

The 2 drivers with the fastest cars and quickest reaction times all day met in the final but Decker was still a big favorite. Decker makes it interesting by slowing to a 3.98, but his .410 reaction time made sure he was able to hold off Tom Mueller’s quickest pass of the day
