Cylinder washdown

    In the process of changing over from a supercharger to twin turbos, we washed a cylinder or two down and now that hole smokes bad. Is there any easy trick to remedy the situation? It is a BBC with Brodix heads. Don't really want to tear it apart as the motor only has about 20 passes to go before a new rebuild. Would like to get the turbos somewhat dialed in this season on the "old" build. Any help from you more experienced guys would certainly be appreciated. JW

    Well, it is the motor with the Ohio Crankshaft in it. JW

    ??? any issues with Ohio cranks that I should know about???

    Wash down leakage

    Just for my own info when a cylinder gets washed down do you see a increase in leakage and if so what percent

    No!! none whatsovever. Just kinda a private deal between aj481x and me. I actually have three OC cranks in service. One 540 BBC with a 14-71 for tractor pulling, one in a 496 BBC with an 8-71 in a RED, and one in a 540 BBC alky injected for pulling. Good service, prices, and so far dependable (three years). An old fuel guy told me that they used to do something with muriatic acid in washdown situations. Just thought I would see if anyone had any ideas. I know a teardown is the real fix to the problem.     Thats interesting. Did they suck it through a port nozzle or what ?????????

    Don't know. I didn't press the issue with him. When he was racing, it was in the 60's-70's era. We wereserious about some other stuff!! He has good tales about guys like Garlits and Kalitta--the real old "innovators" before they became famous. JW

    in the salvage yard world back in the carburator day when we had a smoker we mixed ajax and water and dribbled it down the carb and it would reseat the rings

    or took off the pan and put a piece of leather in the old 6 cyl. Chevy connecting rod, would quiet them down for quite a while.

    What the boys are saying is TAKE THE DARN THING APART.
    Smoke doesn't always equate with washdown. If there is smoke.......

    I've did that on my first car several times. I didn't mix it with water I just dumped it in and fired it up.It was a stock gm 307. The damn thing ran till I built my first 350 and I abused the hell out of it. Before I pulled it we fired it up and held it to the floor for at least 10 min. Till I got tired of listening to it run and shut it off. It didn't have enough cam or valve spring to blow it up. Sold it for 50 bucks. Back in the early 80's good times
