Comp. Plus Chassis Article

    I have read a lot of these posts about this chassis problem and I don't seem to find much information from college educated metallurgists, engineers, heat treaters, etc. I'd like to see a list of NHRA officials and chassis builders with their educations beside the names. Why do they all believe they have the right and knowledge to make these very important, life threatening decisions.

    How many pro teams have people with doctorates or masters degrees beside their names. How many indy car or formula 1 teams DON'T have highly educated specialists making these types of important design decisions.

    We need to look outside this antiquated drag racing box we live in and start living in the real world of modern technology, or we need to get the hell out of these cars. We will never be able to completely stop the accidents or injuries but there is no excuse for the ridiculous crashes we've had lately.

    I'm going out on a limb here, I think that this design chassis has ben the norm since 1974, I think John Buterra was the designer of it? some one correct me if I'm wrong, you are right this chassis is good for an alky car/ 260 270 mph car, 320 mph is a lot differant, espisaly with all the down force, I'm going to say that the tubing size/thickness needs to be increased/ top sholder hoop same as roll bar/ 1.5/8 x .083 from 6 in foward of the eng. flex plate all around sholder hoop. Bottom rail 1.5 x .065 from 6 in foward of the eng. flex plate and all uprights/x braces in and around the driver, any weight that will be added will most likly make the cars go faster as it seems that the more it weighs it loads the motor more , and if not at least they will be safer, so every body eather gains the same or looses the same amount. Just my oppinion. :)

    Racers being what they are ,are prone to make every thing light, even if they made the chassis hevier, thay could take some wing/downforce, out of it and it would be the same, they are all smoking the tires ,this might help them, I'm no rocket scincetist, so some one tell me what is the differance if you have 100 lb. of down force and drag as to have just 100,lb's, of weight and we all know they have 10 times that.

    Down-force is not mass that needs to be accelerated.

    I can aggree with that off the line, but what about the top end ? the fuel cars look like an arodanamic dump truck, pluss if they go slower maybe nhra can give them more nitro % to make it up, bottom line, the driver will be safer with bigger and thicker pipe. ;)

    Because someone has a collage degree, don't nessasaraly make them smarter than some one who don't, most collage peopel don't have a lick of common sense. don't beleive, just talk to one of them about anything that don't have to do with book smarts. :eek:
