I was wondering if someone could give me a operating (base) range for barrel valve leakage.

Also, I need a recommended COLD valve lash.

Motor is a KB/BAE hemi, Early BAE fuel heads, 14-71 Littlefield Hi-Helix/Retro, K style barrel valve, Waterman Red pump with .800 gears.
I dont want anyone's top secret tune ups just looking for some numbers to use to get it started.
    Thanks

Valve lash at .018 cold and th barrel valve at 78% to be on the safe side and then tune from there.

Thanks, thats what I was looking for. That leakage number is with a 2 gauge set up like checking cylinder leakage, with the 1st gauge on 100 and the second on 78, correct?

.018 seems a little loose to me. i have always set them at .012 cold. i ran that style heads for years and set them at .012 cold and .024 hot.

You may be a little closer than me, I only run 1/8th mile promod and probably do not have as much heat in the cylinder allowing my gap to be closer and I set mine on a really tight .018 and .026. The answer is yes, set the first guage to 100 and read the leak from the second guage.

    Outlaw,

Your second gauge should be on 22 for the amount of leakage, not 78.

    Leak Down

Some Guages Read Backwards Depending On The Gauge
The Snap On Unit Reads Correct, 78 Would Be Showing

on any cylinder leak gauge I've ever used if you put 100 in and it holds 100 then that is 0 % leakage, 100 in and it holds 90 then thats 10% and so on. SO are we talking 78% leakage (second gauge at 22) or 22 % leakage (second gauge at 78)???

Leakage should be 22 unless you have the backwards guage in which it will show 78 allowing 22 to leak past. Just like a cylinder leakdown, you will be measuring what escapes.

.012" is the number we use..... gives .025 to .026" hot.
