The 45th Annual Coors Light Funny Car Classic will go down as one of the best yet to hit Eastside Dragway! The weather was beautiful and the track personnel did an outstanding job in track prep for SIX of Earth Shaking Entertainment's baddest teams to go to battle on!

This would be a two run show with the two quickest cars from the first round holding back as the "Final" during the 2nd round! Last year’s Event Champion Bunny Burkett was back and up to the task with her always beautiful Dodge Avenger. Also representing the "Bunny and the Boys" racing team would be Earth Shaking Entertainment new comer Matt Stanbaugh who would be behind the wheel of Bunny's 2nd Dodge Avenger. Current track record holder (4.01) Jim Dickey would give the field a run for their money in the "My Favorite Charity" 23't Extreme Blown Altered. John Headley would make the trip in his mean looking 69' Mustang "Thunder" along with ESE Alumni Tony "Mad Scientist" Cannoy in his super clean Firebird. Rounding out the field was none other than Funny Car pilot veteran Bill Naves who would be driving is '34 Coupe Extreme Blown Altered "Extreme Pursuit".

Tony Cannoy and Bunny Burkett opened the show with two HUGE burnouts, and Bunny flying the American Flag high atop the injector! The two floppers drove through some tire shake and it was Bunny Burkett taking the stripe with a 4.33 to Tony Cannoy's close 4.45.

Up next were Matt Stanbaugh and John Headley. Stanbaugh is known at many tracks as "The Burn Out King" and he did not disappoint! After two long burnouts the two left the line with Headley shaking a bit right off the line but that '69 Mustang looked awesome and Headley drove through it to a 4.70. But it was Stanbaugh in the other lane that took the win light and put the rest of the field on notice with a killer 4.14 at over 180 MPH. Would it be enough for a final round birth?

The last two with a shot at the Finals would be Bill Naves and Jim Dickey. After side by side burnouts to half track, the pair backed up to the starting line and was rolling into the beams when track officials saw some sort of debris in the left lane of Dickey. The two Altereds were shut down and both were too hot to run their round immediately so the pair returned to their pits to cool down. About 30 minutes later the Altereds were towed back to the line for their first pass. So far the Finals looked like Bunny with a 4.335 -vs- Stambaugh with low ET 4.143. Naves and Dickey did short burnouts due to the heat in the motor. The two crept into the staging beams and when the tree dropped both cars left hard, Naves was out on Dickey with an impressive .984 to Dickey's 1.000 60 ft times! The Extreme Pursuit Altered with flashing Lights and screaming Police siren started to dance around at speed and forced Naves to lift. Naves just missed the finals running a lifting 4.15 at only 155 MPH! But Dickey rose to the challenge running a thunderous 4.08 to take low ET of the round and catapult him into the finals where he would face Matt Stanbaugh!

2nd round was another great round of racing! John Headley paired up with Bunny Burkett to get the round started. The Mustang and Avenger looked awesome on the starting line and it was Burkett who would take the win light running a blower belt throwing 4.48 to just edge out Headley’s 4.54! Next pair was Bill Naves and Tony Cannoy, two ESE veterans! Naves left hard again on Cannoy with the quickest 60 ft of any car for the day with a charging .9756! Cannoy tried to catch Naves but it wasn’t meant to be as Naves took the stripe! Canny ran a 4.48 while Naves got a bit out of shape at the big end having to lift and STILL running a 4.22 at ONLY 133 MPH!

The Final was set… Jim Dickey -vs- Stambaugh. Two huge burnouts from two great drivers! Both cars were staged and both rocketed off the line! Dickey shook hard just past the 60ft and had to pedal. Stanbaugh saw his chance to take out the current track record holder and began to chase Dickey down! But as soon as Dickey pedaled his 3,000 horsepower monster it straightened up and just really starting hauling butt! The two were side by side through the traps with Dickey taking the Event Championship with a killer 4.07 (low ET of the day) to Stanbaughs equally impressive 4.08!!!

This was a great show that could not have been accomplished without a great track and track personnel, our ESE Teams, drivers and crew and of course the FANS! Our next show will be at Union Dragway on May 4th! We look forward to seeing our fans and putting on another great show!
