Thought I would get things stirred up. Was in NC last year when they did the 4 wide thing. It was fun to watch it for one time. But it got old watching it on TV last night. I really don't think the racers really liked it, even though the didn't say so. Just reading body language. Now I know NHRA needs all the help they can get, but maybe the should start looking inside. they said it took twice the number of safety people + equipment and over a week + a half to get the track ready. Talk about a wast of money. I am sure it all came out of someone elses pocket. Thanks Don

I didn't like it either. I can't keep track of whos racing, whos winning, etc... Kinda like the carpet in a casino...just too busy.

I was mulling this over also. I haven't seen the four wide deal in person. I was just wondering if NHRA brought in twice as many safety/track prep folks just for this one event? Otherwise it seems as though the crowd could be sitting there watching track prep for twice as long with a two lane track. The fans get to see half as many actual races for I assume the same money with twice the down time. Too weird for me. Dave Germain

I enjoyed the nightime qualifying view ONCE... I really enjoy watching the cars in slow motion on TV. I felt like I was robbed of half of the experience. There is too much going on in a short period of time to watch 4 cars at once. I did not care for it beyond watching the "candles" run down the track in qualifying. also the fans are so far away from the cars, I bet it was really lousy watching it in person. I thought they would at lkeast mention the 1st 4 wire track, Dragway 42, in Ohio. but I guess the NHRA has no interest in the other sanctioning body...

I was there yesterday and the view you have is fine. All of your comments are exactly what was being discussed amung the fans I was around. They did have a crew on each lane so the oildowns were cleaned up quickly just like at every other track. The rumors around the track after qualifing last night was the drivers don't like it at all.

    4 wide racing

I agree with you guy's. A few of us were watching the races and we all think the 4 wide racing "SUCKS". When the race is over you hardly know who did what. It is to busy trying to keep track of 4 cars. Also I bet you if they did this at all races they would start losing sponsorship as the cars do not get near as much exposure, and like you said, 1/2 as many passes. I heard they were thinking of doing this in Vegas ! "DUMB" "DUMB" "DUMB" idea. Just our opinion. Richard Putz and friends.

My partner and I were working on our car and we had the TV on during the races and were pretty much saying the same things about confusion and missing half of the action . I have watched my last "4 wide race " and it did suck ! .

Don Onimus ..... congratulations on getting ONE right ! lol

I hated it as well ! A good friend of mine and I were discussing this 4 wide thing and his point was .... If Antron Browns recent accident happened at Zmax and there was a pair of cars on the other side of the wall , what would have happened then ? Maybe a 3 car pile up with enough flying debris to kill a few more spectators ?

Think about the nightmare of.... "lane choice" !!!!!!!!! "I'll come back to take your order if you need more time"

I would like it if they ran all the Force cars together first round and eliminated 3 of them at once!

I'll say this, guys at my work that never watch drag racing tuned in last nite to watch 4 wide.I also was driving into work saturday morning and the nascar station was even talkin about it. It gave our sport some positive plublicity, one time a year I can deal with it.Anyway who's gonna tell Bruton Smith I know you built this state of the art facility but we dont like it.I think the city of Charlotte tried that and guess who won!!!!

    Pro Drivers HATE It

I rent shop space from one of the pro stock teams. Was talking today with their shop manager who told me that to a man every driver hates the 4 wide. Especially the pro stock drivers where reaction time often makes all the difference.

It is a fan-centric deal for sure. But, as a fan, one and done is enough. I live in Charlotte and all my buddy's loved it-once.

How about round 1 of qualifying 4-wide just for the novelty. Then put the concept away and do the rest of the show the right way.

it appeared to me that the problem was going to the 2 step on time.trying to be last to stage could cost you and everyone else had to be on it 7 seconds from the time the first lane was in.
I can picture tafc with one guy at launch rpm for eternity and another not up yet.the brakes start to slide..now picture 2 more cars doing the same thing and the tree flashes.
In fuel cars leaving at an idle it didn't seem to be a tune up issue as much as figuring out the blue light deal.

It was kind of impressive to see Dixon have low et of the quad and not advance.
The whole deal is alot like nascar doing the road course once a year..change it up!I liked it.
a split screen for tv would help too

Drivers reluctant to speak their mind.

Remember years ago when Bazemore gave his opinion that the Winston FC vs TF handicapped special race sucked? And he had a red Winston sponsored funny car if I recall? Then they pulled the plug on his sponsorship. Apparently it was some dope at corporate Winston's idea
