is it aluminum or steel block. i know they do it to aluminum blocks for alcohol dragsters for restriction of cubic inches on blown deals. but not sure if they can for cast iron block.

You would probably have a pretty thin deck or no deck after that. How thick is the deck now? How thin of a deck can you live with in your application?

Some of the import guys weld a "new/another deck" onto the top of there block to make it stronger.

If you could do it, you'd have to machine new registers for the sleeves to sit in? Whew!

Machining it isn't the bad thing, I have the mill and the machinest. I'm just wondering if the casting is actually the same a s a 9.800 deck, with just extra material on top ?

I tried to chat with John ( Rodeck ) the past couple days. He is into a big project and I will have to wait for 2 weeks to talk to him directly.

I have one. I do believe based on fuzzy memory that John will tell you to mill away.
While on the subject what do you torque the mains to?

Sorry Dave, I haven't ever used one of these ? I will need to get sleeves and the head studs when I know the deck height ! When I talked to John about 6 months ago, he told me that he would still do a set of sleeves for me at that time ? Somebody had bored this one out for 4.500 bore, John told me that was a HUGE mistake. He had never intended that block for anything over 4.310 and he really wanted 4.250.

Ask him while you are at it. Lost my notes.

I have been running 4.375 for quite a while. Some Years blown. Some years inj alky and mucho nitrous.
Got some 4.5 sleeves laying around on the shelf somewhere. Machining the block is a no brainer. To me the big pita is if I had to make the sleeves shorter. They are a bit odd on the bottom side to say the least. When this one gets laid to rest I will go with the New Century block iffen I stay on the dark side and not go the poly route.
