That's the way to do it. Put which ever snout you want and loosely put the belt on and mak sure it lines up with the idler pulley and the crank pulley
That is dependent on the length of the snout and the pulley alignment and how much room behind the blower. The usual is around four or five inches.

If it was me I would not want to put my money into a new and unproven blower. It may or may not be good but it is unproven.
