Hi my name is Paul. I have a 1960 falcon chassis car I built from the ground up. It weighs 2850 with driver and has ran 7.90 with a really bad tuneup on a .40 jet. I race mostly heads up 1/4mile , grudge, minimal prep, and just any interesting events that come along.

I have a 572" BBF nitrous motor I am switching over to blown alcohol. I have never built or ran a blown alke setup and looking for advice especially since it's generally harder to find ford combos to learn from. Currently running a eliminator ultra block 4.500" bore with some tfs A-460 18 bolt heads. I just picked up a fresh used 14-71 HH little field with a big n ugly carbon hat. I believe I was making 12-1300hp before and would like to jump up to 16 maybe 1800hp

#1 crank- figure I will sell all my 4340 parts and start with a good billet crank (BBC snout) whatever rods size is common. Should I stick with 4.500"? Also recommend a manufacturer for the power I'm looking for. Will I need to fab up a crank support running the BBC about?

#2 rods 6.7, 6.8?? Manufacturer? I fear the life span of the aluminum rods but I really don't make that many passes a year so I'm thinking i could probably run 2yrs on a set and the added benefits sound well worth it.

#3 pistons and CR. I was recommended to run around 11.0 to 11.5CR to help with tuning and possibly the torque curve of the motor? I have been running diamonds as they have a catalog piston to clear my A460 pattern that gave me about 14.0 CR.

#4 Cam I wonder if my nitrous cam will be suitable for the blown combo it's a .839 lift with .285in 304ex @.050 with 115sep.

#5 I will need a fuel pump as well.

Does this look like a combo that will make the power I'm looking for? I see numbers all over the place from 1400-2600! I really have no idea. My motor currently makes 1,000 na so how much boost are we looking at to jump 600hp and will it be mild general maintenance or pushing the limits of what I have?

I will be seeking my much more advice when the time comes for pulleys and all the other small details but this stuff will get me rolling. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I gather parts to make the swap. Can't wait to see my car with this sticking through the hood!

Many unknown variables here. To much stroke honestly/4.00-4.25 need deck height/compression 11-12 max cam get one ground for YOUR combo. Get your fuel system flowed otherwise your going to end up with a pile of parts a fat motor is a happy motor rage fuel systems or spud miller. Do it right the first time...................

Hi Paul I think with your combo with the A-460 heads you should have no problem with a good HH 14/71 exceeding 2000 hp with 30 lbs of boost , I would think with only 20 lbs you should be able to make 1600 with a good tuneup, as far as compression I would try to stay between 10.5 and 11.5 if you gonna run 30 psi or more as your tuning window only gets smaller , and as far as rods I should have no problem getting a fairly long rod in the ford and still keep the top ring well down from the top to keep from burning the top ring .

Deck height is standard 10.320" on my ultra block. Any further recommendations on stroke and rod length? I was planning to run compression around 11.0 so sounds like I'm on the right path there. I plan to get a hold of FEI on the fuel pump selection and get some baseline tune ups since I'm completely inexperienced with mechanical alcohol. Any other thoughts on my cam? What I've seen nitrous and boost are achieving the same thing and cam profiles are very similar. Thanks for the replies guys.

Bigger isn't always better with boost but I think your current rod stroke ratio would be fine as far as fuel pumps if your gonna run an enderle pump the 990 is what I would run.

If you are going to buy a new crank I wouldn't go more than 4.25" stroke and as far as rods I would put as long a rod as you can fit and still keep the top ring down at least .350" from the top. I use to run the Oliver steel billet rods with great success but the aluminum rods give more cushion on the crank and bearings but they have a shorter cycle life than steel you just have to maintain them more but it sounds like what your doing you should get at least 75 passes out of a set but that all depends on horsepower and rpm.

And of course your tuneup a bad tuneup as I'm sure you know can tear up anything!

I think you're running currently sounds right in the ball park and should work fine as far as the crank support it's alway a good idea especially with a 14/71 at high boost and I'm in the process of putting one on my 555 BBC with a HH 14/71 so if you can it's a very good idea.

I'm only familiar with chevys, but if that cam was on a 116 or 117, I'd call it a great blower cam. I doubt you'd see much difference getting it reground though.

Your camshaft is very similar to the cam I'm running in my 555 BBC ( slightly larger) mine is around.820" lift 280/290 @ .050 on a 114 lobe sep. and your cyl. Heads are probably better than mine , if it were me I'd probably run the cam you have.

Send your cam off to have it ground for your application to BULLET OR LSM. Your going to want o be 30-40 thou in the hole. Now depending where u place the pin height lets say 1.31 you could use a 6.84 rod with a 4.25 stroke using a .50 gasket. Call RCD and see if they have an option for the crank support.
