hi all i currently using v series main and rod bearings in my injected nitro hemi... the journals on the crank look like they came out of a 100,000 mile car.. is that a oil problem or the hard berings??? should i be running soft bearings?? thanx Mike Taylor 708-205-9052

Maybe I'm wrong and someone correct me if I am ,but I was under the impression that the "V" suffix bearing was the old vanderville bearing and the old vanderville bearings were a soft tri metal bearing.
Could your bearing problems be oil contamination?

the v bearings are as hard as concrete. and what your seeing on your crank is the same as mine always looked while using the v's. i guess you need to take the bad with the good, if your tune up is off with the m's you would be smashing the bearings which ball up and grab the crank and that leads to the rods coming out the side of the block.

It is the hardness of the bearings, but it also could be partially due to the thickness of the oil.

We run Lucas oil and mix 50 and 70. Depending on the temperature outside we vary the amount of 50 we use to make it either thicker or thinner. We have found that if it is pretty cool outside we need to run more 50 than 70, and that helps the bearings out a lot. The opposite is true if it is really hot outside, then we'll run more 70 than 50.

cool thanx... the part about the wear on the crank is it is on the part of the journal that would meet the upper rod bearing at bdc... any ideas why it would wear there??? ing timing too retarded??? cam timing??? heavy pistons??? Mike
