For those using just the four holes for hat fuel (in a C or D) located in the mag housing, do you typicaly try to aim the nozzle spray straight back, or back & down? Same amount of back/down for both the front and back holes?

Has anyone found better locations for delivering the hat fuel, either in different locations or more locations? Or do these four locations seem to work pretty good?

    Thanks.

The front nozzles are supposed to be pointed down and to the back at about 45*. The last I spoke to Norm Drazy he told me this was due to when they were pointed straight down (during initial testing) that some fuel vapor would make its way out of the butterflies during the transition to full throttle. Moving the nozzle angle rearward solved this issue. He also told me that he had someone install them upside by accident and that fuel would definitely shoot out of the injector if this was to happen (also recommended to NEVER do that). Some people put two nozzles in the rear of the hat with 30 lb. checks in place of the front set of nozzles. Some people run 6 hat nozzles. Both sets of holes in the case plus they will drill the plate up top and put two there or in the back of the hat, like I described above. Be careful as to how much fuel you put into the hat as more isn't always necessarily better. Hope that helps.

Any rules of thumb on "how much is too much" hat fuel?.....

I always wondered why people don't treat the PSI hat fuel the same way they treat say the roots hat fuel???

I've stared many a night at my C with aerofoil kit, and I've wondered why not a distributed array of small MFI nozzles located around the pie shaped opening, or even a number of EFI injectors similarly aranged?

Surely there must be a gain over the four holes in the PSI mag case? Maybe not? Am I missing something here?

Back to my original question......point both the front and back nozzles back 45 degrees?

    Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the rears are to point straight down. I haven't talked to Norm in awhile, but he swore that information was in the PSI manual, and I swore that it wasn't (at least not the copy I had). If you haven't picked up the PSI manual yet, it is a good read.

DMPE makes a restraint that has six fuel holes in it that spray the rotors.

It's nice to keep the rotors cool with fuel, but the more fuel you put through the hat, the more control you lose over distribution through port nozzles. So as you cool/seal the hat more, you will start seeing wider spreads in nozzle distribution. I'm sure there's a point where you start working the blower with too much liquid, and a point where you could potentially do damage. Most PSI systems run 35-40% through the hat.

The roots ran much warmer due to it's design, so that's why they have to run more fuel through those.

Main thing is to keep it lubed up with prism or pj1 lube.

I have always turned my nozzles at 45 down towards the rear.
