Rob Atchison enters AC Delco Canadian Nationals on a roll

London, Ontario July 24, 2005 “Back to Back” IHRA Funny Car Champion and current points leader Rob Atchison brings the Erickson Manufacturing Pontiac home to Canada continuing his quest for a third straight IHRA Funny Car Championship. This weekends AC Delco Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park will be last of three Canadian races on the IHRA/Hooters schedule. “ We have been on a bit of a roll lately winning the last two races in Edmonton and Milan, ” stated Atchison. Hopefully we can continue our winning ways this weekend in front of our home crowd as the season begins it’s second half.

Accompanying Rob and the Atchison Racing Team for the AC Delco Canadian Nationals will be a host of Veterans who defended Canada in past wars to celebrate “ 2005 The Year of the Veteran”. To honor the occasion the Erickson Manufacturing Pontiac will be adorned with the Torchbearers logo and the Year of the Veteran logo on the rear quarter panel. “We thought it would be great to help give these great veterans some added exposure by donating them a spot on our car” stated Atchison. IHRA has also been very supportive of our idea to help remember all those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

Torchbearers 2005 is an association of war veterans, teachers, students and concerned citizens who are dedicated to keeping our military history alive and relevant. Their objectives are to honor all war veterans who served and all those who gave their lives to make our freedom possible through education and distribution of Veterans related materials to schools and other centers throughout Canada and the US. “Veterans Affairs Canada has given us temporary tattoos of the Year of the Veteran logo and Canadian Flags to hand out to the fans young and old ” stated Atchison.

One veteran who will be at the races is Charley Fox who returns to the small Canadian Air Force base where he learned to night fly and now some sixty years later is Toronto Motorsports Park. Charley went on to become an ace pilot in the European corridor who received the Distinguished Flying Cross with Bar and was a significant part of history as he shot and severely wounded German General Rommel in his staff car. General Rommel was in charge of the defense of Europe and was not in command during the European invasion by the Allies because of his injuries.“ As a member of our church congregation I have known Robbie Atchison since he was a little boy and I am extremely proud of both his personal and racing accomplishments” stated Charley Fox. The Veteran’s Affairs and the Torchbearers are delighted that Robbie and his team have chosen to help us at the AC Delco Canadian Nationals.
