    NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car

For Immediate Release: June 30, 2005

    A Distinct Advantage…

Milford, Michigan – The next race for the VIPsports.com Dodge Stratus NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car is this weekend, July 1-3, 2005. The ParkerTech Racing Services crew is already on the road to Stanton, Michigan, location of the Mid-Michigan Motorplex. This will be Round 2, of 6, in the National Hot Rod Association’s Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

The VIPsports.com Mopar Hemi-powered Dodge Stratus has been prepped for an anticipated visit to the winner’s circle and Frank Parker, team owner, has nothing less in his sights. “We had a tremendous Round 1 race, in Indianapolis. Danny (Townsend) qualified number one, turned the lowest ET, highest top speed and drove away with the win. Launching our Divisional season like that, along with our National events experience, gives us a distinct advantage going into this weekend.”

The performance at Indianapolis locked Townsend into the Division 3 TAFC points lead. He now has his sights on an eighth Division 3 Championship and its accompanying invitation to the Jeg's Allstars event. Jeg’s Allstars is an invitational race-within-a-race for NHRA's top Sportsman racers in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The sixty-four best racers, drawn from eight categories in each of NHRA's seven geographic regions, compete for team and individual honors and a share of a $100,000 purse. Points are earned at NHRA divisional races leading up to the Allstars event, which will take place during the Ameriquest Mortgage NHRA Nationals, at Rt. 66 Raceway, September 29 - October 2, in Joliet, Illinois. This year, the event sponsor, Jeg’s High Performance, has offered a “double up” bonus to Allstars competitors. Winners in each individual Allstars class, who go on to win their Ameriquest Mortgage National category, will have their Allstars prize money doubled.

Qualifying and time trials, at Mid-Michigan Motorplex, start this Friday at noon and continue Saturday at 11 a.m. Top Alcohol Funny Cars qualify on Friday, at 4 p.m., and on Saturday, at 3 and 7 p.m. Eliminations for all classes start Sunday at 9 a.m. Alcohol classes will run their first round at 1 p.m. Mid-Michigan Motorplex is located 50 miles northeast of Grand Rapids at 2589 N. Wyman Road, off M-66, in Stanton. For more information call the track, (989) 762-5043, or visit www.MidMichMotorplex.com.
