MCP Team looking to rebound in Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car ace John Weaver and the Meer Capital Partners team will be looking to rebound at this weekend's Fram-Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. After two straight final round appearances, Weaver and team lost a close race in round one to Larry Miner at last weekend's CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals in Seattle. Not discouraged, Weaver and the team are eager to get back on track this weekend.

Weaver, from Orting, Wash., cites the team was just on the wrong end of a very close race last weekend.

"Those Miners are tough racers," said Weaver. "When you go up against them, any time, any place, they're tough. I was just a little late and he beat me. We hate to lose, but when both cars run that good, you're only going to have one winner. That's just the way the race was. We gave the fans a great race."

"This weekend we're just eager to get out there and do our best again," Weaver commented on this weekend. "I've been talking a lot with our tuner Bob DeVour, and we only have three races together, so we're both still learning this car. We'll go to Sonoma this weekend and just do better."

Car owner Ron Meer shares the team's optimism going into this weekend's race.

"We didn't do as well as we would have liked last weekend, it was just a tough field and we came up on the wrong side of round one," Meer stated. "We still have a great crew, a great driver and a great car going into this weekend, so we're looking forward to having a better outing in Sonoma."

This weekend's qualifying will begin on Friday with two sessions, followed by one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations will begin Saturday evening, with final eliminations concluding the event on Sunday.
