Taylor Looks for Repeat Win in Wine Country

ANAHEIM, CA — Following an unusual five-week layoff, Dennis Taylor and his entire team is anxious to unload the Plumbing Concepts Top Alcohol Funny Car at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, this weekend. There’s something about the wine country region that seems to reward this group for its efforts. Taylor comes in as the defending champion of this NHRA Pacific Division 7 happening, and also scored a runner-up finish in 2003. Dennis commented, “These last few weeks have given us the opportunity to regroup and disassemble the car from front to back. Racing has taught us that inconsistency doesn’t always result from something that’s obvious. It’s usually a minor detail that takes careful inspection to correct.” Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez added, “I’m always working towards further establishing our competitive edge. For some reason, we haven’t enjoyed the same level of consistency as last year. Thankfully, Dennis allows me free reign when setting up the car, which makes my job easier.”

The Plumbing Concepts Team sees this as one of the toughest races of the season. Sonoma generally attracts a high car count that includes a great deal of stiff competition. Several strong entrants are expected from Northwest Division 6, making each qualifying run extremely important. With forecasters calling for temperatures in the upper 80s throughout the weekend, the tuner’s challenge of applying the right balance of clutch and fuel becomes paramount. Qualifying begins Friday at 4:00 pm, and continues Saturday at 12:30 and 4:00.
