Taylor Tries to Stretch His Streak at Sonoma

ANAHEIM, CA — Momentum could very well be a key factor during the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Sonoma, California, this weekend as Dennis Taylor’s Plumbing Concepts Top Alcohol Funny Car team comes off consecutive final-round finishes in the last two outings. After winning at Woodburn, Oregon, and narrowly missing a win at Seattle this past weekend, Taylor sits atop the NHRA Pacific Division 7 points standings and moved from 12th to 6th in the national tally.

Looking at the team’s performance of late, the Plumbing Concepts Camaro has not been one of the fastest cars in the class. Taylor commented, “All the data we’ve collected since testing for Mickey Thompson Tires the day before Woodburn is paying off. The car’s beginning to run 205mph at half-track and our quarter-mile speeds are climbing, as well. I have to thank my entire crew for all their hard work. They all understand the concept of performing as a team, and each one of them is very proud to work under the direction of Ora Vasquez.”

Speaking of Crew Chief Vasquez, Ora and his wife Barbara will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend, to be followed by a large party that had to be postponed (due to racing) until next weekend. That’s a wonderful personal milestone for a genuine individual who has certainly made a difference in the sport of drag racing. Congratulations Barbara and Ora!

Summing up his prospects, Taylor said, “The long-range forecast calls for conditions similar to what we had here at the beginning of July, so that data should help us. However, the air is usually good here, so the heat may not be a factor.” Vasquez added, “I like our chances no matter where we race, because this is the best crew I’ve ever worked with.” The team looks forward to hosting guests from the Sacramento and San Francisco offices of new associate sponsor, Taylor Freezers (no relation).
