Callaway hoping for another summer hot streak

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Just three years ago, former NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Lee Callaway was in the same shoes he's in today. He was in the middle of the pack in Division 4 standings, and coming up on a run of summer time races. He then went on to win three-straight races and the Division 4 Championship. Coming off of a runner-up finish in Rusk, Texas, Callaway hopes to start another summer hot streak of wins at this weekend's Division 2 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Montgomery Motorsports Park.

Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, hopes the hot weather will play into his hand.

"This Chuck Haase' car we have has always worked great on hot, slick tracks," said Callaway. "This is going to be a Sunday daytime race in Montgomery, in July. That's why we picked this race as an out of division race."

He also feels the Rusk event was a turning point for the team this season. After the runner-up, Callaway enters the event in fourth place in Division 4 standings, but is within striking distance of the leaders.

"We finally made some major changes to the tune-up, and it responded," explained Callaway. "It still was shaking the tires pretty heavily every run, but we hope to get there early enough to test some new things. We hope to make it interesting."

Qualifying begins on Saturday evening for the alcohol cars, with final eliminations concluding the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
