Snyder Earns First Win of the 2006 Season

Second Straight Final, Second Straight #1 Qualifier

The Snyder Motorsports Race Team sponsored by TORCO Racing Fuels headed down to Valdosta, Georgia this weekend to participate in the Division 2 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event and earned their first win of the 2006 season. The Team was scheduled to compete in the Indianapolis Divisional, but after learning on Thursday the event was being rescheduled they loaded up the trailer and headed much further south. Fortunately, they arrived safely and being in the winner’s circle made it well worth the adventurous trip through the tornados and severe thunderstorms that moved through the southeastern part of the country.

On Saturday, the two qualifying shots for Top Alcohol Funny Car and Top Alcohol Dragster were canceled due to the weather. It was decided they would run their first and only round of qualifying on Sunday morning at 10 AM and begin eliminations at 1 PM. The 24 year-old driver, Mick Snyder, earned the #1 qualifying position with a 5.68 at 251 mph. He ran 5.70 at 251 MPH first round and earned lane choice for the second round match-up. In the semi-finals Snyder was first to the finish line running a 5.72 at 248 MPH. During the final round, the blower belt came off the car at around 1200 feet but he was able to make it to the finish line first and take the win.

“It was great to get this TORCO Racing Fuels Pontiac back into the winner’s circle again. We feel like the car is responding very well right now. That final round wasn’t exactly how we planned it, but we got the win light,” Snyder commented. “I felt the blower belt come off and the car just stopped running. I could see the finish line and I just kept waiting for him to come flying by me, but he didn’t till just after we crossed the stripe.”

With the win this weekend the Team climbed into the 6th position in the POWERade National points standings. Their next scheduled event is the Division 3 opener on April 21st thru the 23rd in Indianapolis.

The Team would like to thank our major sponsor TORCO Racing Fuels and our associate sponsors Coan Converters, Design 500, Flatout Gaskets, Lencodrive Racing Transmissions, Long Printing, R & R Racing Products, Snyder Auto and Spitzer Race Cars for their continued support this year.
