Thacker Performs Well in Indy for Quarterfinal Finish

The Rapid Transit Race Team competed in the U.S. Nationals this past weekend. The event held over Labor Day weekend each year is considered the largest, most prestigious event in drag racing. The TORCO Racing Fuels sponsored Top Alcohol Dragster team gave it their all and came away with a quarterfinal finish.

Driver Marty Thacker stated, "The car ran really well during eliminations. It was the only blown alcohol car to run nothing except 5.30's at over 266 MPH on Sunday and Monday. Even though we didn’t come away with the win, it's hard to be disappointed in our performance. The blown cars just couldn't outrun the A-Fuel cars unless the nitro car made a sizable mistake. The new Boninfante clutch is really starting to impress me. I believe it will be the clutch of the future for the blown alcohol cars. It is a good feeling to know we are helping to develop such a great product."

The Team ran consistent numbers in qualifying with the best pass coming in the 4th session, 5.41 at 263 mph, to put them in the top half of the field (#6). First round, Thacker was first off the line and ran another good-looking pass to take out his opponent with a 5.36 at 266 mph. In the second round, Thacker continued to run well when he tripped the lights with a 5.37 at 266 mph. Although he was the quickest and fastest blown car of the session, he could not hold off his A-Fuel opponent.

"All in all, we are going to call this a good week. All of the spare time built into the Indy schedule allows us to visit with so many of our racing friends. Some of the people from Atlantic Scaffolding were with us throughout the event and helped us feed around 100 of those friends on Saturday. We got to spend some time with the great staff from TORCO. The only thing that would have made the week better would have been to win the event. That's what we plan to do next Labor Day. Right now it's time for a week at home to freshen up the car and spend time with the kids before heading back out on the road for 3 consecutive weeks of racing."

The next event for the Rapid Transit Race Team will be in Reading, Pennsylvania at Maple Grove Raceway for the Toyo Tires Nationals September 15th thru the 18th.
