Thacker Earns Win at Mid-Michigan Motorplex

The TORCO Race Fuels Top Alcohol Dragster driven by Marty Thacker earned its first win of the season at Mid-Michigan Motorplex this past weekend. This was the second win and third final round appearance in the last three trips to Mid-Michigan for the Rapid Transit Race Team.

"This win felt great. After a long dry spell, you start to doubt yourself. This weekend we proved to ourselves that we are still capable of getting it done,” remarked Thacker.

The Team qualified number three in the divisional event with a 5.47 at 262.39 mph. They went on to win first round with a 5.59 at 256.11 mph. In second round Thacker faced fellow blown alcohol racer Jeff Bohr and grabbed the win light running a 5.60 at 257.51 mph.

The final round was a rematch of last year’s final at this event where Thacker runner-upped to Bill Reichert. This time Thacker took the starting line advantage with an exceptional .005 light and never looked back. He also outran his opponent stopping the clocks at 5.57 and 256.84 mph.

“The entire Rapid Transit crew did a great job adjusting to a new set-up this weekend. We have not completely got a handle on this tune-up yet. We chose to give up some performance for consistency because of the tricky track, but overall we were pleased with the results. The set-up cost us a little in qualifying, especially the first two sessions, but on Sunday it paid off. Even when we intentionally kill a little horsepower, that TORCO Racing Fuels keeps burning strong. With the support of TORCO Racing Fuels coupled with Atlantic Scaffolding and Boltech Services, we plan on keeping the fires turned up," said Thacker.

"My son, Mitch, celebrated his 13th birthday at the track Saturday. It was so great to have him here this weekend to celebrate the win on Sunday. It made the weekend that much better. Now if I could just get Paige (my daughter) to the races."

The next race for the Team will be in Joliet, Illinois at Route 66 July 15th thru 17th.
