Thacker Qualifies #1 and Clinches Jeg’s All-Stars at Edgewater

In Cleves, Ohio this past weekend during Summer Thunder held at Edgewater Sports Park, Marty Thacker and the Rapid Transit Race Team continued their quest for the Division 3 championship and the Jeg’s All-Star slot for Top Alcohol Dragster. TORCO Racing Fuels sponsored dragster runner-upped in the race and was able to clinch the Jeg’s All-Stars spot for Division 3. The prestigious “Best of the Best” competition is held during the Joliet National event September 29th thru October 2nd.

Thacker began the weekend by qualifying number one with a 5.52 at 260.34 mph (less than .03 off the track record he currently holds). This time was good enough to earn him Spitzer Enterprises Low Qualifier Award as well as the low ET and top speed of the weekend.

"Boy, what an up and down weekend. We lost all day Friday and Saturday morning due to the rain. Once the weather turned dry and we were able to race, the TORCO Racing Fuels dragster climbed right into the #1 qualifier spot. It was a great honor to receive the Spitzer Enterprises Low Qualifier Award. We are so lucky to have the support of the Spitzer’s here in Division 3,” commented Thacker.

First round Thacker shook hard but was able to take the win light. In the semi-finals the car motored down the track with a 5.612 at 258.32 mph for the win and lane choice into the finals. The TORCO Racing Fuels dragster had a big advantage until about half track in the finals when mechanical problems shut the engine off ending the day just a little early for the team.

“Another high point came when we were also able to clinch the Division 3 Jeg’s All-Star spot for the TA/D class. The car was running great and the crew was turning it around well between rounds. Even the driver was half on his game. Then in the final, when it appeared we had won our second event of the year, a fuel leak leaned out the engine, knocking the blower off and allowing our competitor to drive back around the coasting TORCO dragster. The whole Rapid Transit Team was disappointed we weren’t able to complete the clean sweep for the folks at TORCO, Atlantic Scaffolding, and Boltech Services. I told the guys we would replace those bad fittings and go out and try again. We've only been home about 12 hours, at this point, but I bet they're all anxious to bring this car to the starting line again."

The Rapid Transit Race Team will continue their season this weekend when they make the trek up to Brainerd, Minnesota to participate in the Lucas Oil Nationals August 12th thru the 14th.
