Torrence and Conway looking for fourth straight

JOLIET, Ill. - Rookie NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Steve Torrence will be looking to win his fourth straight race behind the wheel of the Conway Racing A/Fuel Dragster during this weekend's NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Route 66 Raceway just south of Chicago. Torrence enters the event a mere 22 points behind current Division 4 points leader Gene Snow.

Torrence, the 22 year-old student from Kilgore, Texas, has won the last three out of the four events he has competed behind the wheel of Tom Conway's machine. At the only other event he hasn't won, he reached the final. Added to that fact was those wins were put together during four straight weekends of racing. After having nearly a month off, Torrence is itching to get back behind the wheel.

"When I was Super Comp racing, if you got hot and won a few races in a row, you just wanted to keep on racing and keep it rolling," said Torrence. "It's a little bit different on this level because you really have to pick and choose where you go. I'm definitely excited to get back in the seat. Tom and the crew do such a great job with the car, it makes my job a lot easier. It really makes you look forward to driving when you got a car that runs like Tom's."

The weekend also marks the first outing with the team's new major associate sponsor Casino Queen, a casino in the St. Louis area.

"We want to do well for our new sponsor we have on board, Casino Queen," commented Torrence. "It's a great place for gaming in the St. Louis area. We would love to welcome them in with a win this weekend."

Qualifying starts on Friday for the alcohol cars with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
