    Weaver scores runner-up at Indy

CLERMONT, Ind. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car veteran John Weaver and the Meer Capital Partners team had their best outing to date, coming just one round short of winning the biggest drag race of them all, this past weekend's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at the famed Indianapolis Raceway Park. Weaver just missed the win when he redlighted in the final against Frank Manzo.

Weaver, from Orting, Wash., qualified the Bob DeVour tuned Camaro No. 3 in the tough field with a 5.640 at 252.90 mph. In round one, he defeated Mike Bell with a low e.t. of the round 5.633 at 252.99 mph, then took out Bobby Martin in round two with a 5.614 at 254.38 mph. Weaver then advanced to the final after taking out the red-hot Mick Snyder in the semifinals with a 5.649 at 252.90 mph.

Weaver's final round opponent was eight-time Lucas Oil World Champion Manzo. Weaver pulled the trigger slightly too early, resulting in the disqualification.

"We're all thrilled to come out here and do this well at Indy," said Weaver. "Bob and Ron gave me a great car to drive this weekend. This team is really starting to come together, and I'm glad to be part of it."

Team owner Ron Meer was also pleased with his team's showing at the biggest race of the year.

"This has been our goal all year; to run with the top cars in the country, and I think we showed we can do that this weekend," stated Meer. "We certainly would have rather won than runner-up, but to run as well as we did at our first U.S. Nationals as a team, really says something about these guys. We're really coming together, and I think I speak for the entire team in that we're excited about the rest of the year and beyond."

The Meer Capital Partners team will head back west for their next outing on the Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at the California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., Sept. 16-18.
