To this point in the 2005 season there have been five Division 1 points races. The Follow a Dream Dodge Avenger has qualified #1 twice, #2, #3, and #5. The team has been to the Final round three times including this past weekend at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. This was the teams second final in a row and third in the past four races. In the final round of qualifying Saturday evening, on a track that had been a challenge for most teams to figure out, Jay Blake and his Dream Team were able to run a stellar 5.711 @ 253.23mph to take the #1 qualifying spot away from Bob Newberry.
Round 1 of Eliminations had Dave Ray paired with CT racer Mickey Ferro, Ferro had the reaction time advantage but the Dream Team's Tom Howell tuned horsepower was too much for him as Dave drove around him just past half track for the win running 5.779 @ 252.99 which was good for low ET of round one. The Semi Final found us matched up with another CT racer Eric Lourie, this was a good race with Dave getting a slight advantage at the start, both cars shaking, and the Follow a Dream Avenger getting the win light with a 5.825 @ 251.95 to Eric's 6.022@ 239.27.
The Final round was a rematch of the Lebanon Valley final in July with Bob Newberry in the other lane. Unfortunately the car let us down as it pulled through the staging beams in the final turning on the red light and handing the win to the Valvoline car.
The runner up finish, our 3rd of the season in the Lucas Oil Divisional Series, kept the Follow a Dream Team solidly in 3rd place in Division 1. With one race remaining on the divisional schedule in Atco, NJ the weekend of Oct 7th-9th third place appears to be ours to lose. It also moved the team up four positions in the national standings from #18 to #14. With a total of three races (two nationals, and one divisional) remaining on our schedule, and many other racers running out of races to claim, the possibility of a top ten finish nationally is not at all out of the question. Next weekends Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading,PA could tell the story, stay tuned.
