    Pistons with Teflon?

I have never run an engine with Teflon in the skirts, but the motor we bought has it. Some of the buttons in the skirts have come out and are gone.

My question is. Can I run the pistons with out them, or can I get new ones to put back in?
The bores look great even on the cylinders that are missing the buttons.

It is a 4.250 bore Hemi. There are no markings on the pistons to know what brand they are.

We also never had run Brooks 88 rods. Does any body know the bolt torque?

    Thanks
    Bob

hello bob, It's been awhile since we ran 88 rods but if you are running black washers...it's 90# if it is the silver washers it is...75# always make sure the bevel is alwasy facing >>>>DOWN<<<< IF YOU PUT THE WASHERS ON WRONG YOU WILL KICK A ROD OUT!!! bevel towards the cap of the bolt

I'd be tempted to save up some money and get a new set of rods and pistons because it can tear up a $10,000 bill if you break one. How long has it been since anyone ran tephlon? A whole bunch of years would be my uneducated best guess-timate.

I`m going to asume that he is talking about teflon buttons in the skirt, last time i saw that set up was back in the early to mid 70`s, they worked ok on the fuel motors, only because they were taken apart just about every run and the bores were honed and new pistons were installed,we tryed them in our bb/fc and they wore out the cyl were the teflon was and caused the oil ring to not seat and the car blew oil out the pipes, the idea was good, keep the piston from rocking in the bore but it didn`t work, just my 2 cents:rolleyes:
