Pilkington On Top With Three Rounds To Go!

nitromax3.jpg Another win at the second “Night of Fire” has hoisted Oakford Funny Car Pilot, Rob Pilkington to the top of the ladder in the Motorplex Top Comp Championship

With three rounds remaining, Pilkington and the Alutech/CTS Funny Car team have lodged five points ahead of closest rival. Al McClure, to set the stage for a nail-biting conclusion to the season, with just three rounds remaining.

“We are well and truly back in our comfort zone now,” said Pilkington, with the decision to run the car in AA trim as opposed to the slightly more aggressive national class of “Top Alcohol.”

“The car will run 5.5 seconds in Top Alcohol, but we haven’t been able to do it consistently which is an area we need to improve on whereas in AA trim I can get it to run a 5.7 or even a 5.6 pretty consistently, and that’s what win races in this sport.”

However his commitment to consistency would never get in the road of pushing the car hard on every pass, and there’s every chance they can set new records this weekend at the famed Westernationals event.

“This weekend is a national event, but our points will still count toward the state championship. It’s a double edged sword for us, because we will want to throw everything at the track that it can take, yet if we go too quick, we can set a new record, forcing us to repeat those record performances every time we hit the track, and that’s a lot of pressure!”

“Having said that, we are committed to winning this championship for our racing partners in CTS, Alutech, and Force Equipment, and if we have to drive the wheels off it to win, then that’s what we’re going to do!”

The Force Equipment Team will begin their Westernationals campaign at 4.20pm on Saturday, with three rounds of qualifying throughout the night, with the first round of eliminations on Sunday from 5.00pm.
