main sizes

wich the best build engine for use in hemi blower alcohol. std size main or 3"size main ?

My opinion is this
if you are not having crank problems use the smaller size
you have less bearing surface speed with the smaller journal

 

I am curious as to what the reason was that caused people switched to 3" mains for a period of time?

Why I ask is because one of my motor programs has three perfect short block assemblies, all of which are 3" mains & hemi rods (one Bryant & two Crower) and the 3" bearings are getting tough to find.

Had wondered about switching over to a standard bearing deal instead, by either machining or replacing, but was wondering what I would be giving up for the sake of cheaper more readily available bearings? Blown meth, with some %nitro slated for the future.

Thoughts?........
