OK guys, here's what I have, KB olds block for chevy, steel merlin heads. 3.75" crank, 4.310 bore. 11:1 CR, Brooks B2 rods, retro front discharge 6-71 We're going to run nostalgia funny car, alky fuel.
I've read and heard that these blocks have oiling concerns. I have had great advise from folks to run a dry sump and also to call Jim Oddy on the oiling issue. I called Jim, and he is not able to fully explain how he "fixes" the oiling concerns.
My question is to anyone who has run one of these, is there something I can do, short of installing a dry sump, to make this thing live? I'm running a Titan oil pump with 14 qt oil pan. I'm going to have to "modify" the pan for ground clearance and will wind up with approx. 12qt capacity. We plan on making 40 passes or so this season so I want a dependable engine.
I'm looking for suggestions to pool together and make a decision as to what to do. I'm up to my neck in this thing, so changing the combination is not economically possible right now.

    Thanks,
    Keith

PS -- we are also running an Accusump on theis engine...

    Keith,
We have raced many years with a KB Olds with a wet sump. all we do is use restrictors that screw in the front (they are about 2" long) and on one motor we drilled and tapped the oil galley located in the distributor hole and installed a restrictor there also. You have to pay a lot of attention to the oil pan and baffles around the oil pump to keep the oil in the pan. If you have any more give me a call.

We ran a KB Olds 526" Combo with 14-71 Hi Helix Kobelco @ 38 over. Had a Jeff Johnston 14 quart pan, Titan pump, with an accusump accumulator. In 2 seasons we put over 70 runs on that combo and never had a problem. HOWEVER, as stated above, make sure your Line Bore is good!! Motor made 1875hp @ 8500rpm. I don't think you will have any problems with your setup.
