Can the gt belt be run on htd pulleys ?. I tried it this week and the belt ( 14mm 1568gt) tore and got tossed on the first run . I borrowed the belt and it had 4 runs on it already when I got it . Any thoughts ?.

    Gt Vs Htd

This Is A Very Common Question. You Can Run Gt Belts On Htd Pulleys But You Are Not Supposed To Go The Other Way Around. The Gt Profile Is Designed By Gates Which There Engineers Claim Is A Stronger Tooth Profile By Distributing The Load On The Tooth Providing More Strength. The Difference In Size .014 Differnce In Height Of Tooth The Gt Is The Shorter One. Some People Believe That The Htd Profile Is A Better Way To Go As It Allows The Air To Escape From Under The Tooth As The Belt Goes Around In The Pulley. I Remember In The Whipple Days Seeing One Of The Top Running Dragster Teams Run A Gt With A Htd Belt On The Top This Is The Big No No But What Are You Going To Say To The Team That Just Set Low Et. One Of The Biggest Problems With Losing Belts Is The Tension. Most People Don't Run Them Tight Enough. There Also So Many Other Variables. Pulley Shoud Be Checked For Concentricity, Manifold For Flatness, idler Bracket Spacers To Be All The Same Thickness, etc. Etc. This Could Go On And On But This Should Give A Pretty Good Answer To The Question. Good Luck

On our TAFC we run the 13.9 pulleys with the 14mm GT2 belts and they work great. Haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood). We run the really wide fuel belts (a little over 3" I think) and they work great.

hahaha, Yeah Dave I have no idea what it is in mm's, I've never measured it that way. I'll have to check when I get back to the shop...maybe I have an old metric ruler hanging around from my elementary school days lol...metric sucks!
