Has anybody tried a spray made by MG chemicals for EMI suppression when running dataloggers? I know this has been kicked to death surrounding the Mallory/RPM datalogger interference issue. A friend of mine who works in the computer industy came by yesterday and mentioned it. He said they spray all the insides of their project boxes and connectors with it and it works great.

    Here is a link:

I doubt its a "magic" solution but I was wondeing if its worth trying?

    Thanks

The writeup is correct and basically is the same as radar absorbing paint that is used on some aircraft:rolleyes:. The paint holds nickel flakes or it can be carbon or anything else metal and acts as a shield. The problem with data loggers is not usually the box they come in but are the the wires that that are used to pass digital information from the sensors acting as antennas to the EMI. In the days of analog data loggers the information stream from the sensor could be interupted by EMI and keep on going suppling you with data because it was a repeating stream. The problem now is everybody switched to digital data so when that stream of data is interupted by EMI it becomes confused and lost and cannot recover unless you do a restart. So yes it would shield the box but don't think it would fix the problem.
