    Taylor Testing for Tucson Tune-Up

ANAHEIM, CA —Dennis Taylor and his Plumbing Concepts crew is doggedly pursuing its sweet spot while preparing for the second race on the 2006 Pacific Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series calendar. Having competed in one NHRA national event and the D-7 opener a few weeks back, last year’s consistency has turned to consternation. The problem stems from an increase in power. As such, several variables can cause dreaded tire shake (or lack of traction) – clutch, fuel, power, and track conditions are but a few. Taylor noted, “Now that we’re running more speed, we have other issues to address. We found some things too late at the Phoenix Lucas Oil event, but our last run there was our smoothest of the year, by far. Our computer data from that pass showed lots of promise, so we’re using that as a baseline for testing prior to Tucson.”

Tucson marks a tough three-race swing, as the Plumbing Concepts Funny Car heads to the national events in Houston and Las Vegas. This year’s new power combination has showed promise, while also causing a bit of brain twisting which has prompted consultations between Taylor Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez and long-time friend, Alan Johnson, Crew Chief for the championship-winning Army Top Fuel Dragster of Schumacher Racing. Vasquez commented, “The challenge of hurtling a car from a standing stop to over 250mph in a quarter of a mile never diminishes. It’s never been an exact science, but throughout my career, I’ve come very close to being exactly right on several occasions, and that’s what drives us. Each time out, we’re learning how to go quicker.”

Price Pfister Pfaucet of Pfacts: Taylor’s Plumbing Concepts Funny Car comes to a halt using dual 12-foot, cross-form parachutes. Its high-tech carbon brakes can do the job in an emergency, but they’re not designed for repeated full stops.
