    Taylor Eyes Home Closer

ANAHEIM, CA — Dennis Taylor and the Plumbing Concepts crew are racing at home this weekend after thousands of miles on the road in 2005. Pomona Raceway plays host to the annual Automobile Club of Southern California Finals, where a formidable host of challengers will battle for a spot in the coveted 16-car field. Though Pomona sees limited usage during each season, it’s generally regarded as one of the most historic of all quarter-mile drag strips, as well as one that’s always capable of record-setting performances. As the gates are set to open, 30 cars are pre-entered for this prestigious season-ending competition.

Looking at Taylor’s foul start at last weekend’s Pacific Division 7 season finale contested on the fast surface of The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, an old drag racing adage applies. “If you don’t red-light once in a while, you’re not trying hard enough.” Dennis mentioned, “I hated what happened because my crew worked hard all season long, and that’s what lost us the Division Championship.” As you may imagine, Dennis Taylor is his own harshest critic, and he’s still replaying that fateful run over and over in his head.

The outcome sealed his destiny, as Dennis missed the Pacific Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Championship by a narrow margin two years in a row. That same cluster of red Light Emitting Diodes allowed Steve Gasparrelli to win the 2005 crown. Dennis added, “We all send our sincere congratulations to Steve, Lou, and Michael Gasparrelli and their entire crew. Those guys were tough everywhere they went, and in the end, the points worked in their favor.” Taylor continued saying, “We have nothing to be ashamed about. My guys worked their tails off from Pomona all the way through Las Vegas, and I know they’re all looking forward to racing at home once again.” Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez noted, “I think we’ve strengthened our program even more in the last couple of weeks and for me, a great deal of satisfaction comes in working with this Plumbing Concepts crew. I’d stack them against anybody out here.”

Price Pfister Pfaucet of Pfacts: The valve springs in the Plumbing Concepts Funny Car have a life expectancy of only five-to-six runs. Wear is checked following every run by measuring the spring height. Minimal wear can be corrected with precision shims to help increase spring life. However, the more rpm they see, the shorter their life span, in spite of the fact that they’re actually three springs in one that are wound from high-strength “tool steel” material.
