Clint Thompson Has Respectable Outing in Canada

After starting the year off driving in the ADRL’s Pro Extreme class, Clint Thompson turned to his Top Alcohol Funny car for a match race date in Woodburn, Oregon before moving on to the BC Nationals in Mission, Canada. Thompson will be alternating driving the funny car and the Pro Extreme car through out the season but this weekend valuable NHRA points were on the line in Canada. Thompson showed no signs of rust in Mission where he has won the BC Nationals three times.

Thompson qualified second with a 5.64 at 259 MPH. This would set up a first round meeting with fellow Oregon racer, Jeff Ashwell who qualified fifth. At the hit, Thompson had a nice advantage off the starting line and never looked back as Ashwell had his hands full as he shook the tires. Thompson cruised to a sweet 5.66 at 255 MPH victory to move on to the second round.

In round two, it was a classic match up between the best two Top Alcohol funny cars in the Northwest as Thompson was matched up against Brian Hough from Junction City, Oregon. As the lights came down, Thompson was out of the gate first but then the car made a move towards the center line and he was forced to lift. Meanwhile, Hough was on a good run and sailed to victory.

While it was not the outcome that Thompson Racing was after, it was a good start to the season considering they went two rounds and qualified second. Next, Thompson returns to driving the ADRL Pro Extreme Camaro, June 1-2 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison IL.
