I just finished setting the heads on my engine (BB chevy) and one of the head studs tore a small hole (1/4" long x about 1/8" ) in the intake port. These are cnc heads and they are obviously thin in this area. I have some exhaust ports that have broken through but with this cause me grief trying to keep the boost inside that port? I could sleeve it but I'm don't want to alter the port shape if I can avoid it. I was thinking about a thin layer of epoxy, or should I just run it and not worry about it?

    Thanks

    sleeves

If you setup BBC heads for 1/2 inch studs you'll have sleeves and holes everywhere if the ports are big. I've never had trouble on the exhaust side with the stud showing. I'd sleeve the intakes with thin brass tubing. Make it big enough to clear 1/2 inch studs in case you get them later. It won't care about the flow in the port.

    bb holes

had a set of very early pro stock heads done by richie zul way back when. these heads had the same thing, studs going into exhaust. heads are still being run to this day, no problems at all.kinda freaked me out, but no problem.

I run a set of Dart 360's with lots of port work done to them on my BBC. We had to shape the end of the stud to match the port shape. I just run thread sealant on the studs and have no problems with them running 35lbs boost. If your worried about it put some epoxy or JB weld over the holes.

    Intake port hole

Decided to just put a bit of JB over the hole, I greased up a stud to use as a backer and it seems to be pretty good, the port looks exactly like it was execpt for the color. I'll make sure I seal up that stud with some sealant, looks like it will be ok. Only problem is its inside the rocker box, will be harder to keep an eye on.

    Thanks for the ideas/advice gents

Your not going to like the end result when that epoxy breaks loose and hangs an intake valve open !

You should have sleeved it .

    Intake Broke through

I have been hearing from various people that I should remove the epoxy and run it as is or sleeve the hole. I am now leaning to removing it either way, wont be a huge problem to get it out.

    ports

Another thing to keep in mind, there are other thin spots you don't know about esp if they are cnc'ed.
    Sleeve it and be done.
There's enough other stuff to worry about running a blown alky BBC.
