I'm running a BBC promag 44 and titan pump with a Dunn offfset drive. I was assured this setup would not overload the bronze gear by several people. After 15 passes the gear is 50% gone.
I installed it per Dunn with stabilizer bars on the mag. I didn't like the fit of the drive into the block so I o-ringed the base like MSD does. I was thinking about drilling a oil feed hole from the big groove in the drive bypassing the o-ring to spray on the gear.
The BBC has a drain hole from the valley that dumps on the cam gear but i'm wondering if it gets a little dry on startup and idle.
I can move the mag to the front but this setup is really clean and it took a lot of work to get it to this point.

    thanks Mike

Mike, Comp Cams has a composite gear that is suposed to last longer than anything else on the market. I have used them in a couple SB Ford engines the were wearing the small bronze gear pretty fast and they worked good. Not sure if it will cure the problem, but easy enough to try.

Sure tells you how much force it takes to crank that 44 over a standard distributor or smaller mag. :(

Unfortunately, the titan pump demands a hex driveshaft with a special 125.00 hex distributor gear. I don't mind changing it along with rods or other maint. but 20 runs is ridiculous.
The 44 promag never wore a gear on it's own but the oil pump in combination is not happy. We ran the 44 on a summers front drive with a oil jet spraying on it.
