    distrib gear

    Hi Craig
We bought a used bae engine with 30 runs on it since new,it's a forged bae block.
The cam is not damaged but the bronze gear tooth pattern is not in a good shape, like a bad adjusted pinion ring gear:).
We have the play between the gear and the bronze bushing in the block @
.008 at the moment, the same as we did in our old KB engine .thanks danny

    25-35 runs

it's not uncommon to need to replace that bronze gear on the mag drive from 25-35 runs, especially if you are running your timing off the mag.

if you are running timing off the mag, it's not uncommon to have very little to no endplay on the cam. the less endplay, the less variation in timing from idle to 3500 rpm.

after monitoring timing off the mag, we immediately switched to the leahy trigger set up.

    Danny,
Can you clarify what you mean by clearance? Are you talking about vertical clearance of the shaft/bronze gear or rotating clearance between the bronze gear and the cam. If you're talking vertical, there should'nt be any clearance at all, your bronze gear should be riding on the top of the bushing, that's what helps keep your cam timing more stable. If you've got clearance between the top of the bushing and the bottom of the bronze gear, your hex drive is bottoming out in the oil pump and valve train pressure is pushing the oil pump rotor into the pump end plate. You might want to check the pump for any excessive wear on the end plate. If I'm misunderstanding you I apologize, just wanted to make sure.
