I had to cut/modify my dragster pan for my kb to get proper ground clearance in my new funny car chassis. I copied the popular dimensions for the standard 8qt funny car pan that milidon offers. everything turned out great, except I really don't have enough room to put the trap doors back in it. Do you really need these doors, or can you get away without them?

I don't believe any of our tafc pans have the trap doors. If you're running a dry sump I don't think it'd be an issue, but with a wet sump I'm not sure.

If your using a wet sump, then yes you need
the baffles, they help keep oil from sloshing forward
when you are shutting down, or when you have to get out
of it during a run, ...keeping oil at the back of the
pan for the pick up tube is criticle.

on a dry sump it wouldn't scare me... but i'd agree with the above and i'd be pretty nervous on a wet set-up cause you're under deceleration a long time at the end of a run and there's already not much oil left in the pan at that point.

on my motor... i'd say definitely need doors/baffles

on your motor... i'm sure it'll be fine! :D

All of the F/C pans have the trap door, just a shorter dimension than the deeper dragster pans. If you're sticking with a wet sump, you might also want to look into putting on a 3-quart accumulator setup. I had one on my previous altered, worked really well, although pressure would still fluctuate on a hard shutdown, pressure never went lower than 30-35#. Before I installed it, needle would hang on zero for a second or two at shutdown, even though engine was at idle, still not a confidence builder. I had the Moroso unit, seems like someone else builds one too, just can't remember who it is.

I have always ran Moroso pans prior to getting the MBR motor. They all had trap doors in them both the wet sumps and the dry sump pans. Dave Germain

I agree Hemmee, We also ran the accumulator with our wet sump a few years back, loved it, wouldn't run a wet sump without it again. It saved us more than a few times I'm sure!

Did you use the gravity feed version?

I used the pressure fed setup, not sure how the gravity feed would work under accel/deceleration. It might work OK on a slower car or if you have space limitations, but if you have room for the 3/quart pressure feed unit, I would use it. It can also double up as a pre-oiler, you just have to remember to shut the valve to the accumulater before you shut the engine down. Even if the air pressure leaks down after sitting for a while, accumulater will still be full of oil, before next fire up put 30-40# of air in the pressure side, open the valve and you're instantly pre-oiled. Pretty neat low-buck system when you have to run the shallow low capacity pan. You can have 11-12 quarts in the sytem without having the oil level seeping through the pan gasket (on a Hemi, anyway).

Never heard of the gravity feed one, just used the Moroso accumulator 3 qt one...if i remember correctly the instructions say to put like 6 psi of air in it when empty, then naturally the pressure increases when the motor is running and the valve is open.

We found it helped out a lot in the top end, right after you throw the chutes out, as Hemmee said, it no longer burried the needle past zero on the decel.

Although we never used it as a pre-oiling system, I know guys that have- you can buy an electric solenoid for it that would open and close it by a switch in the cockpit, instead of the standard ball valve that it comes with.
