Lucas Oil

    What do we think about Lucas 70 wgt oil? Anyone using it ?

    I tried it and didn't really care for it. It seems to break down really quickly. We ran 1/4 pro mod racing with it. From a price stand point it was nice. But draining the oil daily wasn't worth it IMO. Cooking type oil just seemed to break it down quickly from 70wt to 40-50wt. I switched over to Gibbs driven oil and have nothing bad to say about that after running it for 2 seasons

    We have used LUCAS for 10 years and not had ANY Issues at all , great products.

    I'm not a huge fan of 70 wt in general in a blown alcohol engine. If you have 'normal' tolerances, 50 wt in the winter and 60 wt in the summer, or heat the 60 in the winter.

    We ran Lucas 60 Plus in Scott McVey's TAFC. We had a bearing come apart at stage, and a needle went down and locked the oil pump up, snapped the mag drive shaft off. So the whole run was zero oil pressure. Clicked it at 1000'. We found the broken lifter pretty quick and saw the zero oil pressure on the data logger and were amazed nothing was hanging out the side of the block. To our amazement, the main bearings looked like you could run them again and the rod bearings were only transferring a little bit of copper. Nothing spun. 10,000 rpm both shifts.

    I have run it in a Top Dragster and now Screw Blown Altered cooking it after two passes. You end up putting 2-4 quarts new in every time, so it's always getting some new oil.
