Pros and Cons in using fuel rods in an alcohol motor

What are your feelings in using a MGP fuel rod in an alcohol motor? I know there are lots of discussions on this, just wanted the latest thoughts.

 

I will defer to an engine builder for a more technical answer....but the biggest, baddest, beefiest rod seems like the best choice....having one fail and destroying a short block does not seem worth the extra weight savings (maybe a few hundred RPM?)
I suppose that a team running a class that needs every last bit of RPM to be competitive needs to use a lighter rod.....and they may need to change them every event or at least fairly often throughout the season...
I vote for big rods, 1.156 pins, 1.062 lifters, etc...if you are not on the ragged edge performance wise...
A lot of guys run the smaller stuff like .904" lifters and 1.094" pins....but I hate windowing blocks!

Well i am by no means an expert. But i have always done what you are asking about. i turn my engine to 9500 rpm. I use the the big fuel rods, 1.1 inch pins, fuel style pistons, and the big lifters. The engine holds up really well. And if you treat is right and not run it stupid lean you will never have a rod break. they last forever.

 

Don't do it. Fuel rods are made of a different material that will pretty much explode at high RPM's. I know of a few rod companies that tried it and had bullet proof rods for fuel and didn't last a few passes in an alcohol combination
