I have a 500/500 296/302 116LS cam for a c rotor 521 BAE5 outlaw combo. At .050 on the intake the card says install at 32 degrees. I've heard people running anywhere from 28-39 degrees.
Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated.

It depends if the cam manufacturer already configured/built the cam with advance into it, and how much adv it was built with, you should find that out before going any further,.But
A rule of thumb was to advance the cam as much as possible without running into Valve to piston clearance issues, which means checking both intake and exhaust valves at 5 degree increments starting and finishing at 90 or 100 degrees before and after TDC.
More Adv equals more torque down low to mid Rpm, less advance equals more mid to upper rpm pull,..36 degrees was pretty common although Ive seen some lately at 38,..eitherway the cam manufacturer should have the broad perspective on the power band your cam will have.

There is a whole lot of variables but generally a couple degrees advance is good. Its always good to talk to the camgrinder to verify what the intent of the grind was. A lot of times you are really limited by the timing gear manufactures adjustment that is built in. Not like a small block chevy with offset bushings drilled into a stock gear. Personally I think there are way bigger impacts to the tuneup than cam advance. Once a car is hauling ass it might help a small amount but gear, trans ratio and how in the zone the fuel system is has a huge effect.
Really depends on what corrected elevation you run in too.
    just my opinion

    Have run 32 to 42

I have run cams 32* all the way to 42*. The 296/500 cam I think you have works pretty good at 40*.I ran it with 526 TFX BAE fuel heads and bothe 14-71 hi helix 54% and wiht whipple at 52%. Both cars ran in top 4 or 5 most weekends, everybody has bad one at times.

Install at 35* and check cranking compression. We liked to keep it around 200 lbs. never below 180 and if got around 22 or more we seemed to hurt more parts.
